Create a pick-your-own box or assortment
Sell a box with a set number of pieces and let customers choose the flavours. For example, offer six doughnuts from a selection of flavours.
Before you start
Decide the box size, available flavours, whether repeats are allowed and whether any flavour costs extra. The screenshots use an existing six-piece pastry box; the same settings work for doughnuts.
What to do
- Open Items and create an item, or edit an existing one. Give it a clear name such as “Box of 6 doughnuts” and describe what is included.
- Set Base price to the price of the whole box. Add the item photo and complete its food information, including any differences between flavours.
- Open Customer choices and choose + Save option group, or edit an existing group. Name the group “Choose your flavours”.
- Add each flavour as an Option name. Leave Price adjustment at 0 for flavours included in the box price. Enter an extra charge only where you intend to charge for each pick of that flavour.
- Turn on Allow for multiple selections, then open Multiple selections settings.
- Turn on Allow multiple selections of the same option if customers may repeat flavours. Set Up to to 6, then At least to 6, and choose Save. This makes the box exactly six pieces.
- Turn on Assortment. Prep will add up each flavour across orders, while the order keeps the choices for each box.
- Open Preview. Try five picks, then add the sixth. Check that it says 6 of 6 selected and that the add buttons stop at six. Remove a pick to try a different mix.
- Review Kitchen / prep and Order summary below. Check the flavour quantities, each box’s contents and any price adjustments.
- Save the option group, then save the item. Add it to your drop menu and set its availability before opening orders.
What happens next
Customers fill one box at a time. Your kitchen can see the total of each flavour to make and the contents of each box to pack.
Good to know
The selection limits set the box size. The Assortment toggle controls the Prep breakdown and applies to orders placed after you turn it on. Customers add another box separately so it can have its own mix. A +£0.50 flavour picked twice adds £1 to the box price. Preview is illustrative and does not place an order; check actual pricing on the storefront before selling.
